Three words to carry around the world.

As part of our awareness campaign, we want to invite seafarers, ship owners, our friends and family and any other supporters to vote for three words that will form part of our logo as our motto. These are three words that are important to you when you think about mental wellbeing at sea. They will also be painted onto the hull of Gunnar’s boat, as a message that will be carried around the world.

How it works

• Anyone who becomes a member during the campaign can suggest one three-word motto.
• The campaign runs for 2 weeks. Mottos can be suggested in the first 7 days; votes for shortlisted mottos can be cast during the full 2 weeks — so the sooner a motto is suggested and shortlisted, the more time it has to gather votes.
• You can tell us the reason behind your words — what they mean to you about mental wellbeing at sea. It’s optional, but it’s what voters read under your motto when they browse the shortlist.
• Submitters give their name and can optionally add their vessel and company; these will be published alongside the winning motto unless they choose to stay anonymous.
• A panel of four — including the skipper and the charity’s board members — shortlists the entries.
• One membership: one motto suggestion or one vote. One email without membership: one vote.
• Motto tips: exactly three words, each up to 15 characters. Choose words you’d want painted on a hull and set into a logo.
• When the final motto is chosen, Gunnar announces the three words, the story behind them, why they were chosen, and the person who suggested them (unless they chose to stay anonymous).
• The first 400 members are our Founding Members and their charity membership fee will stay $2 per year forever.

• Purpose Strength Solidarity

  A sense of Purpose is a robust protector of mental wellbeing. Although often misunderstood, Strength comes in many forms, for example inner resources and capacities that help a person cope and thrive. And Solidarity because mental wellbeing isn’t just an individual task, it’s supported by team and community.

  When I think of Seafarers, I think of these 3 words. They are the people that care of us all, united on boats across the world and are always strong regardless of all the difficulties they face.
