Privacy policy
We collect as little as we can, keep it only as long as we need it, and never sell or share it for marketing. This page explains the details in plain language.
Who we are
Seafarers’ Mental Health is the data controller for this website. For anything privacy-related, email contact@seafarersmentalhealth.org. Because the charity is established in the EU, we apply the GDPR to everyone who uses this site, wherever they live.
What we collect, and why
- Membership accounts — your name, email address, password (stored as a hash, never readable by us), and the optional vessel, company and country you choose to add. Used to run your membership, and nothing else — kept for as long as your account exists, deleted when you ask us to close it.
- Donation records— the name and email you enter when donating, and the amount. Kept as the charity’s accounting records. Abandoned (unpaid) donation attempts are deleted automatically after 90 days.
- Competition entries and votes — your motto suggestion and what the words mean to you, or your vote. Guest votes include your name and email so we can send the one confirmation link and enforce one-vote-per-email; unconfirmed votes are deleted automatically after 30 days. Individual votes are never published — only totals per shortlisted motto.
If you submit a name, you choose whether you’re credited publicly or stay anonymous. You appear on the Crew of Supporters page only if you opt in, and only in the exact format you pick.
Payments
All payments are processed by Stripe on Stripe’s own pages. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers — we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded.
We email you only for the purposes stated when you gave us your address: account confirmations and password resets, vote confirmation links, and payment receipts (sent by Stripe). No marketing without your explicit consent — and we currently send none at all.
Where your data lives
Data is stored in the EU via Supabase. The website runs on Vercel; payments by Stripe. These providers process data on our behalf under their data-processing agreements.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to see, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you — email contact@seafarersmentalhealth.org and we’ll respond within a month. If you ask us to delete your data, we’ll remove everything we’re not legally required to keep (donation records must stay in the accounts, but we anonymise them). You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We use only the strictly necessary cookies that keep you signed in. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party advertising cookies.
